YouTube has introduced a set of new features for YouTube Premium users on the iOS and Android apps, including the ability to add videos to a queue and watch content simultaneously via Meet Live sharing/shareplay, 1080p HD video support, and smart downloads.
These features are only available to YouTube Premium subscribers. The smart downloads feature will allow users to continue watching videos on all devices where they left off. Additionally, the SharePlay feature on iOS will allow users to view content with their family and friends via FaceTime, and Meet Live sharing with the same capability is now available for Android users.
In its latest blog post, YouTube announced several new features, including live sharing, smart downloads, and queued videos to meet enhanced 1080p HD video support on iOS. YouTube Premium subscribers can now access these features.
Starting with the Queue feature, it allows YouTube to create a temporary list of videos it wants to play next, similar to videos available on the web. Users can rearrange or remove videos in Queue.
Another notable feature is YouTube's Meet Live Sharing capability for YouTube Premium users on Android that will allow users to watch YouTube videos with their families or friends via Google Meet. In the coming weeks, a similar feature will be made available on FaceTime via SharePlay for iOS users. Note that to access this feature, only hosts need to be Premium subscribers.
Additionally, YouTube has also brought the ability to continue watching content across devices where the user has left the video. This means, even if the user has switched devices, the video can be resumed from where it left off. This feature is available on Android, iOS and web. And with the Smart Downloads feature, recommended videos will be indexed in the library and can be watched offline.
Additionally, the video streaming platform has also brought an enhanced version of 1080p video quality for iOS that will make the videos more crisp and clear. There is already regular 1080p streaming quality accessible to all users, however, this new enhanced version is limited to YouTube Premium users only.
